I borrowed this book's older counterpart from the library and absolutely love it, but I wasn't too thrilled with the older black and white photos in the book. So, when I looked to purchase the book here on Amazon I was thrilled to see an updated version. I had assumed that the projects and information would be the same as the first publication but that the projects themselves would have been re-made and updated, like the cover shows. But the entire book, with the exception of the covers, are identical to the originally published book in the 90s. With that said, this book has incredible instruction and lovely pieces. The "ShopSmarts" sections are full of great information (especially for a novice like myself). Each piece is designed from an original and shows a picture of the original it is based off of. After reading the book from cover to cover I feel like I can tackle any of these projects because of the positive commentary that the author writes. I still need to purchase a few tools before I can start on most projects but it will be well worth it. This is a good book (an easy 4-star and maybe a 5-star) with some very useable plans for country furniture. Through an odd occurrence I have had two versions/fomats of this book.One is version: Country Pine Furniture Projects: 32 Classic Pieces to Build for Your Home (American Woodworker) [Paperback, 2008]The other version is: Country Pine: Furniture You Can Make With the Table Saw and Router [Hardcover, 1995]Unfortunately, I no longer have this 2008 paperback so I can't make a side-by-side comparison but I'm almost certain the books are identical.For a reasonable price, you end up with nearly 30 different plans for some well-done country pieces. I like a book of projects that has a vast majority of plans for items that I'd want to build. Almost all the items in this book fall into that category for me and the ones that don't are for unrelated issues with the space I have in my home.The plans and the drawings of assembly details are clear and very well done. It's obvious that this author has written several instructional books and he provides plenty of well thought out helpful tips and tricks. For my personal level of experience , the author relies on routers and templates too much but I think he's written the tips at an excellent level for someone who is getting their feet wet in building furniture and wants to build some good looking country furniture projects. While I now choose to do some things slightly different than the author, you certainly won't go wrong if you're following his instructions and processes.

I am an amateur wood worker and I purchased this book to look into the possibilities of doing some work with pine. Where I live it's cheaper then any of the more "exotic" woods and I love the "country" look. The projects in this book are easy to follow and when finished will be really nice.

Nice country pine projects.

This is an outstanding book on making authentic early American country furniture. His instructions are some of the best I've ever seen published. The drawn illustrated plans are superior. The projects are real good and are based closely on originals. But please note: this is the same book by the author published by Rodale in 1999 with a slightly different subtitle.

The projects featured aren't very interesting. Good instructions but nothing appeals enough to me to make it.
